“The Emerging Politics of International Rankings”
Date: May 13 Time: 14:00-15:30 Venue: The OSCE Academy in Bishkek Language: English
Over recent years, dozens of new international rankings and ratings have appeared that grade states on some aspect of their performance. Many international practitioners consider these rankings important tools of global governance that can exert social pressure and exact material costs on poorly graded states. However, international relations scholars have been slow to theorize and critically assess the rankings phenomena. This talk draws upon rationalist and social constructivist insights to discuss four dimensions of the emerging politics of international rankings and ratings.
